Woah! Step back - the future's so bright for you it's blinding me! You are the coolest of the cool. Everyone looks up to you as the benchmark for being coooool. The fonze was your grandfather. Any cooler and you'd freeze! WOO it's chilly in here.
Well what a crappy end to an otherwise beautiful day!! We got so much done outside today. The temps were up and the sun was shining ..... perfect! All was going well and everyone was happy. We went for a ride and bought more flowers as all of the gardens are weeded, turned over and ready. (ya my back still hurts but not as bad) The kids played outside with the dog for hours and we even ate out dinner out on the deck!
Was this day too good to be true? ............ YUP!!!
After our dinner we cleaned up and then it was decided that because our new pool liner should be in this week, we should cut and roll up the old liner so we are ready for installation at anytime. (save a couple of bucks) My hubby, Frenchie, had the task of cleaning the remainder of the leaves and stinky water (my oldest said it "smelled like ass juice" and he was right!) from the deep end. Now, to get to the deep end you have to carefully make your way down a slippery slope .... can you guess where I'm headed ...?
DOWN my man went into the slime..... YIKES! Well we all laughed until we realized what he had done. You see a couple of weeks ago he hurt his thumb while moving stuff for his Mom but didn't get it looked at so now, using this hand to stop his fall .... we were sure that it was broken. It looked horrible and immediately swelled up. But my hubby was determined that we would finish the job started before leaving for the hospital. IDIOT! We of course, had to shower before going to emergency .... the "ass juice" smell was pretty bad.
Cut to 11:30 pm and he has a cast covering his thumb, and hand, running up to his elbow. The good news is that it isn't broke ... the bad news is that he has torn every ligament, tendon etc. and it is bad enough that he will likely need surgery to join things back up again .... Geesh! ..... BUT IT AIN'T BROKE!!!
Have a great (and safe) evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well, I got my sunshine today although it came with wind and low temps. I'm not gonna complain about that. The wind kept the blackflies off of me .... that's another blog...
We went and got some beautiful flowers and I actually got them all planted up! I also dug up some perennials and did some splitting and giving away. When I was done playing in the dirt, the hubby and I went to run some errands .... my back quit on me in Home Depot. I was running around getting bags of dirt and POP! :( Ohhhh it's a hurting! I like playin' and diggin' in the dirt, but I guess it don't like me. (I should have done some yoga and stretching I guess ..... geesh  !)
I took some good drugs so I'll be ready for tomorrow with shovel in hand. Can't wait ....
Have a good evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well, not a huge news day here. We finally have sunshine for the first time in 6 days! I'm telling you, I was ready to either get a sun lamp and throw some sand on the floor or just get in the car and drive away. I can't take rainy overcast weather. It depresses the crap out of me! Anyhoo .... nice day today so I'm going out to take advantage of it.
Went out to a candle party last night. It amazes me how stupid I am sometimes .... I mean, I live in a town that has a candle factory (yes I shop there ...ALOT, and they ship candles all over the province) and yet here I was with several women all purchasing candles from an out of town company that I've never heard of! Not only did I spend too much money ..... I have to wait a couple of weeks for my order  ......I don't normally give in to peer pressure but give me a couple of free drinks and I'm ready to whip out the credit card with the rest of drunks! :P Oh well ... I'm sure it's not the worst purchase I've ever made at a home party ..... (I'm not gonna go there ... YIKES!) I guess we'll see in a couple weeks just how crazy my purchase really was ...
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well yes, I'm still alive! We had our long weekend here and yes .... it really was long. I had Magoo's boys, Sean and Ryan here for the entire weekend. It was so great seeing them. Unfortunately it rained every singel day so there were no outside activities that we could partake in but we made the best of it. The guys all went and played pool and drank too much beer ... hahaha! We had a couple of real hurt'n units here on Sunday morning. Despite the weather I think a good time was had by all. :P Hopefully they will be able to come back for a weekend this summer when we will have the pool up and running and can have a couple of Boce Ball tourney's.
On the weather note.... we are in DAY 4 of overcast skies and downpours! I can't take it for much longer! I was sitting here today thinking that I'm just going to get in the car and start driving south and when the sun starts to shine then I've driven far enough. I wonder how long/far I would have to drive .... hmmmm maybe I would have made it all the way to Magoo and Greybeards house .....(that would be longer than a day, but still ...) I wonder how long it would take for my hubby and kids to put out an APB on me? (probably around dinner time they would clue in ... )
Oh well, tomorrow is another day .... please pray for sunshine in Muskoka ..... :?
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
WOO HOO!!! Yes it's offical! Our first party weekend of the summer! It's our Victoria Day weekend so that is 72 hours of non-stop fun!
We are having my big Sis's (Magoo) boys up for the weekend so who knows what kind of trouble we will get into! I haven't made any hard and fast plans but I'm sure that we will be able to keep ourselves amused. I think that they should be here by dinner tomorrow evening but with them you never know. Sean says that he will be on a patio somewhere with a jug of draft by nightfall ...... hopefully that will be my back deck and all will be safe and sound! ("Party on Wayne .... Party on Garth ....excellent") :P Sorry ya'll that's a Canadian thing! I will certainly update you as the festivities progress!
The downside to any plans we may have had is the weather is supposed to be the poops! We are waiting for our new pool liner to be installed so for now we have a big empty hole in the back of our yard. We usually like to have our first swim of the season this weekend but I guess that will have to wait .... unless someone gets really drunk ..... I think that I will lock the gate and hide the key, just to be safe. Not to worry Sis, I got it covered!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Have you heard the news? I know that my family has as my fingers have been busy bragging. I'VE GOT A NEW COMPUTER!!! I'm so excited about it! Can you tell?
It's so pretty and new and the speakers are out of this world! It has taken me a couple of days to get things set up and get my old computer upstairs for my son. He was very impatient so I was concentrating more on getting him set up so he would ... SHUT UP!!!
Now I can play .... and play I will! :P
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
This blog post is a tribute to my big Sis ... MAGOO!
Growing up with Magoo was, well, for the most part very run of the mill really. You see, there is 7 years (sorry sis) between us so we basically avoided each other for pretty much all of the early years. Unless of course she had to save me from the wrath that were my older brothers. She teased me horribly when she did pay attention to me. At one point she even had me convinced that I was adopted! Man, there was hell to pay over that when Mom and Dad found out! Pretty ho-hum stuff ....
It wasn't until I hit 18 that we became friends. That was a moment. I was finally "adult" enough (she always was sooooo sophysicated) to have something to talk about. I could finally talk about boys and parties and she could give me advice. That was the start of the best friendship I've ever had. We could talk non-stop about everything and anything. When I got married she was like over the moon with suggestions and plans and when I got pregnant well ...... on and on! It was so fun to have secrets then and even better now.
A few years ago, Magoo decided that she needed a change and moved to the States to be with her true love. Now that didn't sit well with me at first. What would I ever do without her? All I can say is, thank gawd for the internet as we rarely miss a day of chat!
We have a "sister bond" her and I. At times it is almost like that "twin" thing ... kinda scary. She is my greatest cheerleader and my bestest friend. I love you Sis!
Don't forget to visit her blog, Magoo Ville, for some grins and giggles. Tell her I sent ya!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Today was a total "Martha" day for me. I started early by taking my living room apart. I washed curtains, windows and walls. I rolled up the old area rug and after I washed the hardwood floors, I unrolled a new one! (that was the purchase I hid yesterday) I even vaccumed the ceiling! It took me a while but, I managed to figure a new furniture configuration that satisfies me. The placed looked and smelled so good that I moved on to the dining room/kitchen and basically did the same thing. I am pooped! It sure feels good though.
Only one set back .... there was no way I was cooking anything in my clean kitchen!! So it was leftovers in the microwave and anything else one could eat without a mess! I know Martha would have made dinner but what can I say, I gotta be me!
I have to tell you that my family always tease me and call me Martha. I've always liked her and watched her show and have even used some of her ideas in my own home. Trust me when I say, I have taken a lot of flack being a fan.
A funny thing happened when Shark99 visited my blog. He said he didn't know why but it reminded him of something Martha Stewart would do .... he meant it in a sweet way I know, but how did he come to that conclusion? It really made me chuckle and when my big sis Magoo read his comment, she nearly flipped! "I told you so, I told you so" Geesh!
I have always taken the teasings and comparisons as compliments and will continue to do so. It could be worse!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Do you ever buy stuff and then hide it? I do .... I don't know why though. It's not like my husband would freak if I spent money. I'm fairly independant and have always made purchases on my own. I'm not an impulse buyer (well not anymore ...) So most of my purchases are well thought out and I usually shop for good deals.
All that being said, you're probably wondering, what the hell did she buy? I ordered a new computer for a start. I just can't take this one anymore. I justified it to my husband (yes I told him) by explaining that if I want to start my own Craft business I will need a decent machine to work on. So I'm "golden" on this purchase. I also went and bought a vacume cleaner and an area carpet for the living room .... these purchases have been hidden ..... I know he won't care .... so why did I hide them? Who knows (well someone does, perhaps Dr. Phil could help) I want to surprise him when he comes home on Friday after work and sees the livingroom all changed around with the new carpet and everything all clean and shiney. That's the part that I like best I guess.
I really have my work cut out for me tomorrow! I best get a good nights sleep!
Oh .... did I mention that I took my springer spaniel and had her completely shaved today .... I guess that will be a surprise for everyone too .... can't wait for that reaction!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Did I tell ya that I got me a new bike? Well, we have had a couple of sunny days here in Muskoka so I thought that I should ride it. (mostly so my husband doesn't ride my arse for not riding it. ..) OH MY GAWD!!! My legs are sore but that's nothing compared to my butt! I thought that the seat was comfortable ... at least on the test run in the store it was. :?
After I got home and got the seat out of my butt crack .... I had a long soak in tub to loosen things up a little. I'm feeling somewhat better today so I am back on the bike tonight! I'm sure that it won't take much longer for me to get used to it. If it does ......Sis didin't you say you wanted a new bike? Maybe I can get one of those new gel seats .....hmmmm they sound like fun!
Get out and do something good for yourself!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well, it's a whopper! Let me explain why I ask the question, "how long do germs live?". You see, I woke up Sunday morning with HUGE mutha of a coldsore. Now, I cannot explain how I got it. I haven't been around anyone that has one. I myself haven't had one in years. I used to get them once every other year when I was working during extreme situations where I was on the job for 24-30 hours at a time. So I had to put on my thinking cap and I've come up with this ....
A few days ago I was suffering from dry lips ... no big whoop. I got out my trusty pot of carmex. Only makes sense right .... On Saturday morning after my shower, I realized that my carmex was downstairs and so I pulled out a pot of Blistex that my Mom gave me when I had my last cold sore (like 2 maybe 3 years ago). Now this is where I think things went wrong. Later that night, I started feeling a tingling in my upper lip. I had had this feeling before .... right before the explosion that became a coldsore. I was starting to panic! I immediately went back to the Blistex .... BIG MISTAKE!
On Sunday morning my kids came running in to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, then stopped short and just stood there looking at me. It wasn't until I smiled that I felt the pain and knew right away what they were staring at! It is truly humungeous! I barely have to move my lip for it to touch my nose ....really gross!
Now back to my question .... could I have gotten the coldsore from the pot of Blistex that I used for my last coldsore? HOW LONG DO GERMS LIVE?
Have a great day everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well I was having one of those days. Everyone has one once in a while. I felt lazy and tired and just wanted to go back to bed. I was a little pissed that it was very dull and dreary outside and the temps were dropping. I managed to get showered and dressed and then once I got ready I realized that I was having a really good hair day! That sort of perked me up a little. I went outside to find my hubby detailing my car, a black intrigue, and it was so shiny from stem to stern! It looked like I just drove it out of the showroom! This perked me up even more!
I decided to take a ride. Now, regardless of the weather, this small town is always busy on Saturdays. I didn't really have a destination in mind. Just a drive and some good tunes on the stereo. I noticed that every side street I came out from I was let into traffic without having to wait .... was it the car? ... was it the hot chick driving? (ok Sis ... shut up, this is just a rambling) or was it just that people weren't in a hurry and they were being really nice? Whatever the reason, by the time I got home I was feeling like my old self again.
Within minutes there was a knock on the front door and there stood one of our local florist with a beautiful flower arrangement ... for me! I nearly cried, it was from my hubby and my two sons. I hugged my husband and rounded up the boys for a thank you. Frenchie leaned in to me and told me he checked the calender after I left for my drive and thought I could use something special. "Oh" I said, "it's for Mother's Day you mean" "well, that too" he said. I went and checked my calender and in large letters it read "PMS week". Hmmm what could I do but laugh!
It really is the simple things that make me happiest! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the Mother's out there!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Thank you all so much for your great suggestions and comments on my blog yesterday. All your words were truly helpful and I have been in discussions with my neighbours today and we have come up with a plan. I will let you know how we make out.
On another note, we are having a great day here in Muskoka. The sun is shining and the birds are singing. We don't have really warm temps but hopefully by next week .... (I am forever the optimist!)
We had our pool measured up for a new liner today. Fingers crossed we will have it up and running for the May 24th weekend. This will be our 14th year for the pool. It is my little oasis at the back of our property. Our private resort if you will.....hahaha! I can't wait to get fresh water in it and crank up the heat. It really is the best material investment we've made yet. (Now you know why I got so freaked about the idiots across the field)
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow ..... Thanks again!
What would you do? I live in a fairly quiet neighbourhood. We all keep our yards tidy and for the most part there is never any trouble. Our house backs onto a soccer field. It's been great. We have an inground pool at the back of our lot and we have never had any trouble with soccer players or from kids that use the field for fun. Now my dilema .....
There was a new house built across the field. The people that moved in are slobs. The house already looks a wreck and their junk is spilling out onto the field. They have at least 5 dogs that bark from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm and alot of young teenagers (14 -16) that just hang out there and drive their cars all over the field because they have been kicked out of school. This family takes in their daughters boyfriends and their sons girlfriends. They yell and scream and swear at the little kids that play in the field. They have also thrown a trailer in their back yard for the kids to party in. (talk about "trailer park boys")
Now my question... what would you do? I don't want to be a bitch .. but ... I also don't want to be relaxing by the pool and have to deal with that noise and not to mention the garbage that blows across the field and ends up stuck to the back of our privacy fence. It seems that the cops are there at least once a week now. Should I pay a visit to the town to complain, take pictures, get together a petition .... what? I know what my husband would like to do but then I'd be baking a cake with a file in it ....hahaha! HELP! All opinions will be greatly appreciated! I've got a feeling alright .....
Have a great day everyone and an even better tomorrow!
Well it's done, approved and paid for! The transaction for Mom's headstone is complete! I just have to mark July 3rd on the calander as that is when it will be put in place. Now I am finished. It has been a year of paperwork and headaches and many crying jags but I think I have done what Mom would have wanted me to do. I can only encourage people to have all of their affairs put in order so your kids don't have to do it. Even pick out and plan your funeral. I have learned so much this past year and I love my kids enough to do this for them..... Ok! Enough of this talk, I am relieved that I can close the books and put away my files and now be happy with the memories I have of my Mom.
You know what they say "there's only 2 things you can count on for sure ... Death and Taxes" Ain't that the truth!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
=http://img42.photobucket.com/... Well this morning we woke up to snow! It didn't last long but still......holy crap! It was around -1C when I took the kids to school ..... can you say BURRRRR! I can't believe that only 4 days ago I was wearing shorts and it was 23C! Ahhh the joys of living in Muskoka! Our weather is like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you're gonna get!
My yard was just full of black birds today. That is a sure sign that we will be opening up the pool soon. They treat my pool like a waste disposal. I mean when their eggs hatch they take all their crap and drop it in my pool. I have tried everything, fake owls, scarecrows you name it ... to no avail. (I haven't the heart to get a pellet gun .. yet...) I just hose off the deck everyday and keep the pool shark plugged in and this makes clean up easier but it is a pain in the butt for a couple of weeks! Not to mention that they drive my dog completely nuts!
Today is my hubby's birthday! Happy Birthday Frenchie!
We were a little tired today after our long day yesterday but we still managed to put in another busy day. Believe it or not we went bowling! Frenchie, Casey, my brother Pat and his daughter Caitlin and me. That was a trip down a whole other lane!!!
We came home and I made a prime rib with all the trimmings and we all had a real good feed! The birthday cake wasn't my pick (I would have gone for chocolate) but it was close to what Frenchie wanted. It was angel food cake that I filled with a custard in the middle then topped with glazed strawberries and whipped cream ...... it tasted like summer ...... mmmmm good!
Tomorrow I quit eating .... well no more bad stuff! There is no leftover cake so nothing tempting me and there is a new bike in the garage calling my name .......
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
=http://img42.photobucket.com/... Well, we've got them moved ... AGAIN! My brother's girls both go to University up North and they have decided that they didn't want to spend another year in residence so, they have rented an apartment. Now the oldest girl Keely, has decided that she wants to stay up north for the summer and work sooooooo here's the deal. Both girls had to be out of residence by April 24th so everything was moved home 2 hours south .... Because apartments are hard to come by with so many students in the city they took posession May 1st soooooooo everything got moved back up north today! Make sense? Think about it .... it will.
Of course we started very early this morning and once again the weather was true to form .... IT RAINED. There was some wet furniture and the unloading at the receiving end was not very pleasant due to the crappy weather. However, we got them sorted out.
Once we unpacked guess where we went? WAL-MART!! It was so busy in there. We wandered around the mall for awhile and got the girls a few whatnots and then headed home. It was 12 hour day and we are all pooped! Tomorrow is my hubbys birthday so I guess I'll be up bright and early baking a cake. YeeHaw!
Have a great evening everyone and an even better tomorrow!
